Peg Warming: The Story Of My Life

A peg warmer is an action figure that was over-ordered and is now hanging dusty in some discount aisle. Perhaps it's my sick mind, but I think the term is hinting at something sexual. I make no claims that these posts are interesting or even worthy of your time. Read at your own risk!

Queer Cinema

Brokeback Mountain
TransAmerica
Imagine Me & You
Rent
C.R.A.Z.Y.
Capote
Breakfast on Pluto

These are all films that deal with queer issues and are in theatres now. It's amazing how many well made films that deal with queer subject matter have been appearing at the cineplex. I've seen all of the above except for Capote and Breakfast on Pluto. I've heard great things about Philip Seymour Hoffman's performance in Capote.

I also saw a couple excellent gay-themed films on video recently:

Garcon Stupide (France/Switzerland)
Sommersturm (Germany)
Saving Face (USA)
Bishonen (Hong Kong)

All these films are highly recommended, especially Sommersturm.

My Room

I really need to clean my room.

People who come into my room right now need to navigate a series of magazine and box piles before they can reach me. Take a wrong step and prepare for a nasty trip.

Clothes that are strewn around my room block my view from people at my door. My room resembles a messy walk-in closet more that a bedroom.

How did this happen?! The last time I cleaned my room, I said to myself that I would keep it clean...but alas, that did not happen.

I have no room at my desk to write unless I shift thing around, and even after doing that I only get a small patch of surface to scribble my thoughts down.

Is it a physical manifestation of my cluttered mind? Perhaps. Or perhaps I'm just a messy person. In any case...

I really need to clean my room.

The Laramie Project @ Lord Byng

I recently saw the Laramie Project performed by the theatre troupe at Lord Byng Secondary in Vancouver. I had heard very positive things about this production so I was extremely excited to see it.

For those that don't know, the Laramie Project is a play about the death of Matthew Shepard, a gay teen in Laramie, Wyoming.

I was very moved. The friends I talked to who saw it earlier said they cried. I almost did the same. The girl who played the mom had an emotional speech near the end of the play that had my eyes watering. It's the first time I've seen a high school play that was so raw and brilliant.
